When a barking owl is flying overhead, don't duck!
Milly the barking owl loves flying low over the audience. The one warning they give before Milly takes flight is that even though she is flying low over your head, you shouldn’t duck, because she will fly even lower!
She enjoys her flight, so she’s chirruping as she flies - that’s why you see her mouth open.
All these images were shot with the Sony 135mm GM lens on a Sony A1, at f/1.8 1/2000 ISO 200. The images are cropped, but she was close.
So here are two images of her flying over someone’s head, as well as the headline shot you see above. You’ll notice that the shallow depth of field, and how close she is flying, means that her wingtips are out of focus, but it doesn’t matter. Click on these to see the detail.
