New Year's Eve at Melbourne Zoo was hot, but the otter's enclosure is well shaded.
Christmas Day at Melbourne Zoo was really pleasant, with temperatures in the high 20s (Celsius). New Year’s Eve, not so much. It was a bit humid, and the temperature spiked over 38 degrees (that’s over 100 in Fahrenheit). There were no clouds this day, but a lot of the enclosures are planted with trees, or heavily shaded by trees. I arrived early, but the temperature was already high, and many of the animals were quiet. I didn’t stay too long.
This image, of an Asian Small-clawed Otter, was shot in shade at ISO 5000, f/2.8, 1/2000, using the Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 GM II at 200mm and the Sony A1. It was heavily cropped, to about one quarter of the original frame.
