I've always loved New York, from perusing coffee table photographic books about the city (I think those books made me want to be a photographer) as a child.

I’ve always loved New York, from perusing coffee table photographic books about the city (I think those books made me want to be a photographer) as a child, to watching early Woody Allen films, and dreaming of attending an opera at the Met, visiting the various museums, Central Park and even browsing at Manny’s and hoping to bump into a famous musician.

Note This article is part of our USA Retrospective series, featuring images captured on an early generation Kodak DC220 digital camera with 1280x1024 resolution. The images have post processed to artificially increase sharpness. Please forgive us if they do not meet your expectations of photographic quality.

We visited New York in 1997 (yes, before Sep 11) and saw the World Trade Center, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island. Yes, we even visited Trump Tower. I once stayed at the Sherry-Netherland Hotel beside Central Park and fantasised I was in the cast of the movie New York Stories. We also browsed and shopped at the iconic stores such as Willoughbys for photography and Mannys for music (both sadly no longer exist). These photos are not meant to be representative of the city, just random ones that bring back the memories for me.
